Savannah State University Scholarhips
The Savannah State University Scholarship Committee awards
several university-based and external scholarships. The scholarships, which
recognize academic excellence, have individual requirements.
Types of Academic Scholarships Available
Savannah State University offers scholarships from private,
federal and university-funded sources. While scholarship applications are
accepted throughout the year, December 31 is the official application
deadline to be considered for an award during the following academic year.
The SSU Scholarship Committee announces scholarship awards upon review of
applications.
Approximately 75 funds and their award criteria are summarized in a
scholarship brochure, which is available in the Office of Institutional
Advancement at (912) 356-2286. Five of the scholarships are highlighted
below:
The Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship is awarded to any student who has a 1200 or
above on his or her SAT and a 3.5 GPA or higher and who has exhibited
exemplary leadership and citizenship qualities.
The James H. Porter Merit Scholarship
The James H. Porter Merit Scholarship is awarded to a Georgia resident who
is a full-time student in an undergraduate degree program. To qualify for
the award, students must have a 3.3 college GPA or better or a 3.0 high
school GPA or higher. Ten awards are granted at $3,000 each with renewal
priority.
The Savannah State University General Academic Scholarship
The SSU General Academic Scholarship is awarded to applicants who have a
high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and an SAT score of 1,000 or greater or an
ACT score of 19 or above. Applicants must maintain a college GPA of 3.0 or
higher. All applicants must submit a completed application, a transcript and
two letters of recommendation. The number of awards granted and the amount
of each scholarship vary.
The T.I.G.E.R. Scholarship
The T.I.G.E.R. Scholarship awards students who excel academically. To apply,
students must submit a completed application, a transcript and two letters
of recommendation. The number of awards granted and the amount of each
scholarship vary.
The General Scientific Corporation Scholarship
The General Scientific Corporation Scholarship is granted to selected
applicants with an 850 SAT score or higher and a 3.0 GPA or above.
Applicants must be enrolled full-time in the College of Sciences and
Technology with a minimum of 15 hours. Preference is given to students who
major in Electronics Engineering. The number of awards granted and the
amount of each scholarship vary.

Scholarships, call the Captain of the Army ROTC Program at (912) 356-2440
and/or the Commander of the Navy ROTC Program at (912) 356-2206.
Eligibility
Students enrolled or applying for admission to Savannah
State University are eligible to apply to the Academic Scholarship Program.
Though each scholarship program has different award criteria, students who
are typically awarded academic scholarships are committed to academic
excellence and possess the following:
A 3.0, or above, grade point average
A combined Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score of 1000 or greater; or a
score of 19 or above, on the American College Test (ACT.)
