Trio of Tigers Claim All-Independent Baseball Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga- Three members of the Savannah State University baseball team have been named to the 2008 NCAA Division I All-Independent Baseball Team.
Shortstop Brandon Javis, outfielder Kyle Wilkerson and pitcher Michael Allegretti were all named to the second team.
Javis, who hails from Columbia, South Carolina, batted .326 and was tied for first in team runs scored (36) and triples (2); second in hits, doubles (14) and home runs (5); tied for second in runs batted in (31); third in at bats (129) and tied for third in steals (5/9).
Wilkerson, who batted .341, was the only SSU player to start all 45 games this season. The sophomore from Martinez, GA led the team in at bats (170), hits (58), doubles (16), home runs (7); tied for first in runs scored (36); was second in steals (11/15) and tied for second in RBIs (31).
Allegretti, a freshman from Savannah, GA led the pitching staff in earned run average (4.48), wins (7-4), starts (11), innings pitched (70.1); tied for first in complete games (4); was second in strikeouts (37) and tied for second in appearances (13).
SSU finished the 2008 season with a 20-25 record.
